Mastication is an activity best restricted to the privacy of your own home. So why then do so many people insist on chewing gum in public? Not only is the sight deeply unattractive to onlookers (just spend a few moments watching someone eat lunch across a table and you'll get the idea) but there is also the abiding problem of what to do with the gum afterwards - other than drop it on the pavement to await an unsuspecting shoe. Please, no more gum.
