There was a danger that Infinity Bladewouldn't live up to the hype. The good news is that it doesn't disappoint. Joining the likes of Mass Effect, Gears of Warand Unreal Tournament 3, Infinity Bladeuses the Unreal Engine 3to deliver eye-popping graphics. The app will work on the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, new iPod Touch and the iPad, but it was actually built with the retina display in mind. Infinity Blade isn't all pretty packaging with no substance.

The game combines a decent fighting story with elements of an RPG. As part of your quest to battle the God King, you hack and slash your way, boosting your skills and weapons as you go. There's a slight slowdown at times, even on the iPhone 4, which spoils the experience a little. But in general, the short battles and the replay value (you start again as one of your descendants and battle back to the God King) are excellent.
