If you aren’t a fan of horror games, best to skip this remake of an older Wii title. Project Zero II works at stretching your nerves to breaking point. The plot is spooky (two girls lost in a forest, stumbling across an abandoned village) and the environments are just as eerie as you’d expect. Under the circumstances, you’d expect something more substantial than a camera to protect you – preferably something with a lot of firepower and range. But when your enemies are a little less corporeal than your average horror psychopath, the camera is probably far more useful. Particularly when it’s loaded up with ghost-busting film that sends spirits on their way.

The Wii remake has had some tweaks. The graphics, obviously, look better, and the controls have also been reworked to take account of the Wiimote’s motion-sensitive capabilities. This works well for the most part, aside from a few frustrating moments here and there. There are new modes as well, and different endings, so even if you are an old fan of the game, there’s still something new.
