SMS mobile pay system BoxPay adds 10 jobs

IRISH TECH start-up BoxPay is expanding, adding 10 new jobs to its operations. The company, which specialises in providing an SMS mobile payment platform, was set up only a few months ago.

Founded by brothers Gavin and Iain McConnon, the company is targeting website owners and games developers who want to charge typically less than $15, where users may not want to use their credit cards. Payments are authorised via a pin code sent to the user’s mobile phone and deducted from the phone bill or call credit.

The new jobs include account managers, developers, accountants, database administrators and carrier relationship managers.

“Dublin has fast become a European hub for tech-central companies,” says Iain McConnon. “There is an illusion out there that there are no jobs anywhere, but technology, especially mobile technology, is an incredibly fast-growing sector. We are hiring constantly.”

The firm is poised to take advantage of the growth in online services that require micropayments.

“We’re a start-up in terms of BoxPay, but we’ve been in the mobile carrier billing business for about 10 years,” says Gavin McConnon. “We are connected in 25 countries and signed carrier deals for 55 countries, and we hope to have all integrated and billing by the end of the summer.”
