FORMER WBO world featherweight champion Steve Robinson has been offered a surprise crack at American Tom Johnson's IBF crown next month.

The opportunity is seen as a peace offering from promoter Frank Warren to Robinson.

The Welshman claims he was entitled to a much larger purse when he made his unsuccessful title defence against Prince Naseem Hamed last autumn - a claim fiercely disputed by Warren.

Robinson is also seeking compensation after being sued for breach of contract when he left rival promoter Barry Hearn to join Warren.

Since the Hamed defeat, there has been no contact between Robinson and Warren, other than through their solicitors.

However, following talks in Cardiff, Warren has offered a series of fights to Robinson, starting with the world featherweight clash against Johnson.

"It's a good offer and if we can sort out the other matters, maybe I will agree to it," said Robinson.

The former champion says a six month break has refreshed him and he could be ready to meet the American within four to six weeks, without the need for a warm up fight.
