Writing letters and the daily grind

Sir, – Sean O'Sullivan asks what kind of person writes to a newspaper (June 14th). They are, in fact, the most generous of people. They freely share their thoughts for the benefit of all who read them, and they get no payment or other reward for their efforts. On the contrary, they are sometimes maligned. I speak from personal experience. – Yours, etc,

FELIX M LARKIN,

Cabinteely,

MALCOLM

ROSS-MacDONALD,

Birr, Co Offaly.

Sir, – Deirdre Byrne caps it all. There is far more to writing letters to The Irish Times than filling in time. You know the drill. Consider it mental floss. – Yours, etc,

ULTAN Ó BROIN,

Sir, – Is there not a delicious irony in people writing letters to a newspaper commenting on people writing letters to a newspaper? As I am essentially now commenting on the former, where will it all end? – Yours, etc,

FRANK BYRNE,

Terenure,

Dublin 6W.
