VOTES FOR EMIGTRANTS

JOHN B. McMAHON,

JOHN B. McMAHON,

Sir, - Many thousands of Irish citizens living abroad are disenfranchised by the Irish Government. I always considered it to be the right of all citizens of a democracy to have the right to vote. This leads to the question: Is Ireland any longer a democratic country?

My wife and I live outside Ireland for health reasons but we live within the EU. We get the Irish news on the radio and are readers of The Irish Times daily. We are up to date with all current events in Ireland. We have no vote in any other EU country and we have little knowledge of any other EU policies or politics. For these reasons I consider that we should both have an Irish postal vote. - Yours, etc.,

JOHN B. McMAHON,
