Sir, – One cannot dismiss the views of legal international bodies just because they take a view that contradicts yours. The Irish law on abortion is not in line with those of other western democracies. We should acknowledge that difference and each ask ourselves, is it justified? The conservative (let’s face it, religious) forces in this debate also resisted marriage equality, divorce, contraception and rights for women. Were they right? Would we go back to the Ireland they defended? Are they right now? – Yours, etc,
