Sir, – Margaret O'Neill (March 27th) wants the Poolbeg chimneys to be demolished and wonders if she is alone in this. I am sure she is not, but I am also sure that many people in Dublin would hate to see such a demolition. I hope the chimneys are left undisturbed. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – It’s years since they have been painted. Maybe Colourtrend or Dulux would sponsor the painting of them, keeping the original colours, of course. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Having worked on one chimney, known in our home as Grandad’s Chimney, I may appear to me biased!
I admit they need a coat of paint, but they are magnificent landmarks.
I also believe they can become a remarkable tourist attraction. – Yours, etc,

POMEROY,

Sir, – The ESB’s negligence in not painting the discoloured Poolbeg towers gives two very tall fingers to the greatest concentration of their customers. – Yours, etc,

Phibsboro,
Dublin 7.
