The 47th All-Ireland Drama Festival ended in Athlone on Saturday with the Enniscorthy Theatre Group, recent winners of the Welsh Drama Festival, winning both the Esso Trophy and Best Actress award.
Moat Club of Naas, Co Kildare, impressed adjudicator Russell Whiteley, too, placing third and winning four awards.
Results: Esso Trophy for winning group - Enniscorthy Theatre Group's The Cripple of Inish maan. Best Director other than winning group's - Matt Murphy, Dundalk. Best Actor - Fergus Mullen, Dundalk. Best Actress - Carmen Yeates-O'Gara, Enniscor thy. Best Supporting Actor: Conal Boyce, Naas.
Best Supporting Actress - Ann Hurley, Naas. Best Set - Stan Hickey, Naas. Best Lighting - Barbara Sheridan and P. Clince, Naas. Best Stage Manager - Ann Kennedy, Enniscorthy.
Summer school scholarships - Ciara Murphy and Pat Kelly for Gormanston summer School and Bernard McCartan for Maynooth summer school.
The Esso New Playwright Competition was won by Ann Delaney, Naas, for her play Sweet and Sour.
