Detroit - Four students have been arrested and charged with planning a massacre at their high school in Port Huron, Michigan. Two 14-year-old boys and two friends aged 12 and 13 planned to get guns from their parents, a grandmother and a gun shop and kill classmates at the Holland Woods Middle School, police said. "They planned a slaughter and massacre," the St Clair county assistant prosecutor, Ms Mary Kelly, told reporters.

A girl who tipped off police to the threat said the boys planned to shoot at a school assembly and detonate a bomb afterwards. Police said their plan was to kill more people at the school - which has 560 pupils - than the 15 who died in Littleton, Colorado.
