Jury in murder trial sworn in

The jury has been sworn in for the trial of a 27-year-old man accused of murdering a Chinese student in Dublin in 2005. Derek Wade, Church Avenue South, Rialto, Dublin, denies murdering Zhi Song on June 29th, 2005. He also denies attempting to rob the purse of Xiau Wen Zhou on the same occasion. The trial will continue on Wednesday after legal argument before Mr Justice Barry White.

A Co Louth man who committed acts "of gross indecency" with his teenage son and another youth has been given a four-year sentence by Mr Justice Paul Carney at the Central Criminal Court. The 61-year-old man pleaded guilty to 13 counts of indulging in acts of gross indecency.

Man jailed of child abuse

A Scottish man who forced one young girl to give him oral sex and who made pornographic photographs of girls has been given a six-years prison sentence by Mr Justice Paul Carney at the Central Criminal Court.

Robert Rammage, (67) The Tramway, Spa Road, Inchicore, Dublin, and originally from Scotland, pleaded guilty to one count of oral rape, one of making 134 photographs of child pornography and 14 of sexually assaulting a girl in Dublin on dates from June 2002 to May 2005.

Drugs courier jailed for six years

A drugs courier who had cocaine worth about €140,000 in his car has been jailed for six years at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Derek McKenna (26) Thornville Road, Kilbarrack, Dublin, owed up to €12,000 in bank loans.

Five years for heroin dealing

A talented photographer who had a role in the film The Commitmentshas been given a five-year sentence for heroin dealing by Judge Desmond Hogan at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Joseph Campbell (43) began abusing drugs when he was 12.
