NEW ZEALAND:IRISH PEOPLE travelling to New Zealand for the Rugby World Cup and hoping to work there afterwards may be in luck. Figures released by Statistics New Zealand show a continued increase in migration.
The department registered more people leaving NZ than arriving for the fifth month in a row. Numbers have been steadily increasing since the Christchurch earthquake in February: 4,200 people have moved on from that area alone. Traffic between New Zealand and Australia was mostly one-way this year, with 46,400 moving to Oz. Most of these people were Kiwi citizens. Only 14,800 people arrived.
Other reports show that the numbers in full-time work remain steady with a slight increase in the average hourly wage to $26.27 (€15.10).
So far 1,200 rugby fans have arrived for the World Cup and more are expected as the tournament draws closer.
