Sony’s stereo microphone goes truly mobile with the STM10

High quality audio in a compact package that slots into your smartphone

It’s no secret that the smartphone has replace quite a few devices, from your camera to your satnav. For some people it has also replaced the humble Dictaphone. But there are times when the built-in microphone in your smartphone just doesn’t cut it. Perhaps you need high quality audio. Or maybe it’s a noisy room and you need to cut out some of the background noise. That’s where Sony’s new STM10 stereo microphone will come in handy. Ideal for close-up recordings, it plugs into the headphone jack on your phone or tablet and captures sound into your chosen audio programme. The microphone is designed to work with Sony’s Xperia devices, but the good news is that it also works well with Apple’s iOS devices, Android tablets and anything that will allow you to record through the 3.5mm audio jack on your device. You can tilt the mike 90 degrees, and as you would expect, it is light and compact. The STM10 comes with a wind-guard too, so it will work well outdoors.
