Apple has invited reporters to an event on October 16th where new iPads and Mac computers are expected to make their debut.
The iPad has had a difficult year after introducing the lightweight Air. It tablet has seen year-on-year sales declines since January, after an increase of around 13 per cent in unit sales in the December quarter. The wider tablet market has been sluggish, too, as customers upgrade more slowly than expected.
Speculation about the new products has centred on bringing the Touch ID fingerprint reader to the iPad, which may also come in gold for the first time. – Copyright The Financial Times Litd 2014
