Sir, – I must commend RTÉ for its excellent coverage of the Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
What is particularly good is the balance between coverage of the actual events, the studio analysis from guests and the time given to the athlete interviews.
Time is key here. Athletes have been given time to discuss their performances, their personal bests, successes and disappointments within a very open and personal approach. The focus being on the individual, their feelings and their achievements, not on their challenges.
While the obvious medal achievements are uplifting, the emphasis and insight that these interviews provide on the commitment and dedication of all athletes and their families to their chosen discipline, is exceptional. – Yours, etc,
