Sir, – A look at the Central Statistic Office’s list of the top-10 selling cars in Ireland last year is very revealing.
Five models could be described as SUVs – completely unnecessary bulges of metal whose weight effectively negates all the most recent advances in fuel efficiency.
We may regard ourselves as green but it will alas take an emergency like at present to get the Irish to abandon our fuel-guzzling ways.
