Sir, – Anne Harris resorts to quoting Karl Marx as she grapples with the election result earthquake which clearly has sent many into a tizzy ("Mary Lou McDonald is caught between the old and the new", Opinion & Analysis, February 11th).
The explanation for the result is most likely far simpler than she suspects and a little deeper reading of Marx would have elicited the following and pointed her in the right direction. “There must be something rotten in the very core of a social system which increases its wealth without diminishing its misery.” – Yours, etc,
