‘Fast-tracking’ computer science

Sir, – So, the Department of Education is "fast-tracking" computer science as a new Leaving Certificate subject (News, February 6th).

In the early 1980s, I took part in a pilot Leaving Cert computer science module. And now 36 years later, it’s finally set to become a full subject.

We’ve all dealt with sluggish computers. But a three-decade delay tells me that the Department of Education is also in need of a serious boot-up. – Yours, etc,
