Youth arrested over fatal Dublin stabbing

An 18-year-old man died in a stabbing in north Dublin overnight

An 18-year-old man died in a stabbing in north Dublin overnight. A 17-year-old has been arrested in connection with the incident.

The man died after being stabbed in a house in Bayside Square, Sutton, apparently in a drunken argument over what music to play. He was taken to Beaumont Hospital were he was pronounced dead.

He has been named as Mr Jonathon Durrin, from Dublin Road in Baldoyle.

Two other youths injured in the incident were also treated in hospital, including the suspect.

He has been released after being questioned at Raheny Garda Station. A Garda spokesman said a file will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Detective Superintendent Nicky Conneely said officers were called to the house at around 3.30 am.

"These three young people were out all day socialising. They came back to the house at around one or two o'clock in the morning where they had further drink," he said.

"Then, our investigations appear to indicate, there was an argument over what kind of music these boys would play. That led to the stabbing of this young man," he said.

The scene was sealed off and forensic officers from the Garda Technical Bureau conducted an investigation. A post-mortem examination is being carried out.
