London - The British government came under renewed pressure yesterday to alter its policy on genetically modified crops after new research indicated some contamination of other plants was inevitable.

The report, commissioned by the ministry of agriculture, included evidence of "transgenic pollution" from genetically modified (GM) crops to surrounding fields.

It concluded that "no system for the field production of seed can guarantee absolute genetic purity of seed samples."
