Members of the public have been urged not to visit Beaumont Hospital in Dublin due to an outbreak of the so-called winter vomiting virus (SRSV).

The hospital said in a statement that visiting hours of 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm are being "rigorously enforced" and asked the public to note that children are not allowed to visit the wards at present.

This measure is to help contain the outbreak of the winter vomiting virus.

"Members of the public are urged not to visit the hospital wards or the emergency department at the present time unless their visit is really essential," the hospital said.

Beaumont said it regrets the inconvenience to patients and their friends and relatives.

Outpatient services will not be affected by the visiting restrictions.
