Miami - Elian Gonzalez's father told US television that he would be willing to have US authorities forcibly remove his son from his relatives in Miami and have him sent back to Cuba as soon as possible.

"I would be willing for that to take place immediately because [Elian] is going to suffer less," Mr Juan Miguel Gonzalez (31) told ABC television. Asked if removing six-year-old Elian from the temporary custody of his great-uncle might not cause the boy psychological harm, Mr Gonzalez said: "Trauma is what he's going through right now."
