Charlotte - US Federal agents yesterday arrested at least 16 people allegedly involved with the Hizbollah guerrilla group, raiding homes and businesses in the Charlotte area of North Carolina.

A court affidavit said agents sought a court order to search 18 premises and targeted 22 people for allegedly providing support to Hizbollah, which it called a "designated foreign terrorist organisation".

The affidavit alleged the group was involved in money laundering, conspiracy to traffic in contraband cigarettes, immigration law violations and attempted bribery.
