Two rescued from NI house fires

A man and a woman were rescued from separate house fires today.

The woman was treated for the effects of smoke inhalation after a blaze at a property in Old School Lane in the Shantallow area of Derry.

The fire, which is not being treated as suspicious, broke out at around 5am.

Hours earlier, a man in his 40s was taken to hospital following a blaze at a flat in Omagh.

He was rescued from the property in New Brighton Terrace, Cavan Road, just before 2am.

He was treated for severe smoke inhalation but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious.
