Two Iraqi men found in Rosslare container

Two Iraqi men were discovered in a container in Rosslare Harbour last night, gardaí confirmed today.

Two Iraqi men were discovered in a container in Rosslare Harbour last night, gardaí confirmed today.

A spokeswoman said the two are today in the care of the South Eastern Health Board.

The container arrived in Rosslare on a p&O ship from Cherbourg , and the men were found when the container was being unloaded from the ship. It is not known how long they were in the container before being found.

They are reported to have been in a weak physical condition but were conscious. They were brought to Wexford General Hospital but were not deemed to require treatment.

The two men, one in his early 20s and the other in his early 30s, are now understood to be planning to apply for political asylum.
