Two Men have died in the North after their light aircraft crashed on land near the Giant's Causeway in Co Antrim shortly after 7 p.m. yesterday.

The men were identified last night as Mr Lewis Elliot, an engineer, from Farrenlester Road, Mascosquin, Coleraine, Co Derry. The second man was named as Mr Blair Dyson, from the English town of Castledonnington in the East Midlands. Both men were thought to be middle-aged.

According to a spokesman for the coast guard service, the two-seater plane came down after it was caught in turbulence. It crashed in a field near to a spot known locally as Blair Mountain, close to Benbane Head.

It is understood that another plane, similar to the micro-light aircraft which crashed, was flying nearby. The pilot witnessed the accident and was able to land and raise the alarm.
