Former solicitor Thomas Byrne is to stand trial late next year in connection with theft and fraud offences totalling over €52 million. Dublin Circuit Criminal Court has been told that the trial will take up to three months.

Judge Martin Nolan listed it for October 8th, 2013, the start of the autumn term, to accommodate such lengthy proceedings.

Mr Byrne (46), Walkinstown Road, Crumlin, faces 52 theft and fraud charges relating to more than 20 residential properties and six banks and totalling more than €52 million.

Earlier this year he was charged in the District Court with 21 counts of theft relating to mortgage funds, 14 counts relating to deeds of transfer and assignment on properties, nine counts of deception and eight of using false instruments, all between 2004 and 2007.
