London - Defending champion Garry Kasparov began the second half of the 16-match world chess championship series in determined fashion yesterday, but was unable to break down Russian challenger Vladimir Kramnik.
Game nine ended in a draw to leave Kasparov trailing four games to five.
With two players so evenly matched, winning opportunities are expected to be few and far between and time is now starting to run out for Kasparov.
