Rescuers trying to shepherd a stranded whale out of Larne Lough in Co Antrim are being frustrated by a rising tide.

Rescuers trying to shepherd a stranded whale out of Larne Lough in Co Antrim are being frustrated by a rising tide.

Earlier today, a rescue boat managed to lead the 30ft whale out to open sea, but it soon returned to the lough.

Rescuers believed the mammal is confused and disorientated. It is swimming in small circles,, which experts say is a sign of confusion.

Another attempt to rescue the animal will be made tomorrow.
