Cincinnati mayor Mr Charles Luken today declared a state of emergency and imposed a curfew following three days of riots after a white policeman shot an unarmed black youth.

"It must stop and it will stop," Mr Luken told CNN, adding "we cannot tolerate the lawlessness any more."

Officials are warning people to stay off the streets of Cincinnati between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. unless they are going to or from work, Mr Luken told the network.
