WASHINGTON - The US Air Force was to release a final report last night again denying that space aliens in flying saucers crashed near Roswell, New Mexico, 50 years ago. Defence officials confirmed an NBC report that the Air Force's "case closed" report on the incident explains that unusual activities in the desert in 1947 involved military launch and recovery operations of experimental high-altitude balloons.
The defence officials, who asked not to be identified, said "aliens" observed in the desert not far from Roswell were apparently test dummies carried aloft by US Air Force balloons for scientific research.
