The PSNI has confirmed that one of its officers discharged his weapon during disturbances in the Co Armagh town of Portadown last night.

The officer who fired a shot during a street disturbance in the town is to be questioned by the Police Ombudsman’s Office.

The incident took place after police were called to deal with trouble in the Obins Street area last night.

Two men, aged 51 and 36 were arrested.

The PSNI said the incident was being investigated by the ombudsman in line with normal protocols.
