Manila - The Philippine government said yesterday it was optimistic it could soon rescue the remaining two hostages held by Muslim rebels in the south of the country.

Press secretary, Mr Ricardo Puno, said the military reported sighting American Mr Jeffrey Schilling and Filipino Mr Roland Ullah. "Their condition is not that great, but they cling to life," Mr Puno said, adding the military was "pretty optimistic" of rescuing them soon.
