Hundreds of teenage Oasis fans braved the November chill last night to queue for tickets for the band's forthcoming Dublin concerts - only to be told that their hours-long wait had been in vain. Fans of the British rock group began queueing from early yesterday outside the HMV record store in Grafton Street, where a sign on the door advertised the opening of ticket sales at 8 a.m. today.

But at around midnight security men outside the premises told the young fans they were wasting their time - sales would be by telephone to credit card holders only.

Despite the crushing news, Ms Jessica Jones (19) and her brothers, John (16) and Tony (14), who headed the queue after their mother began holding a space at 5 a.m. yesterday, were determined, like most of the other fans, to see the long wait through.

A security man told The Irish Times that the notice advertising ticket sales for the concerts, which take place in the Point Theatre on December 4th and 5th, had been there for more than a week and the information was out of date.

Many of the fans towards the back of the queue seemed unaware of the confusion at the front, entertaining themselves by singing Oasis songs like Stand By Me.

Attempts to contact HMV to clarify the situation early today were unsuccessful.
