O Bradaigh challenges Adams to debate

Republican Sinn Fein has challenged Sinn Fein to a public debate on the Belfast Agreement.

The RSF president, Mr Ruairi O Bradaigh, said he was willing to debate the deal with Mr Gerry Adams or anyone else Sinn Fein chose to put forward. He O Bradaigh was speaking at the Belfast launch of Republican Sinn Fein's No campaign. Responding to reports that some disillusioned nationalists are considering boycotting the referendum, he said: "We wouldn't recommend that. We want a strong turnout. People opposed to this deal should come out and vote No."

The party has printed 100,000 leaflets for distribution, and will also be putting up posters.

Mr Mickey McGonigle, a former Sinn Fein councillor in Dungiven, Co Derry, said republican activists should not trust their leaders. "Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness promised no return to Stormont, yet that is where they are going."
