Talks between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and arrested IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn, set for later today, have been cancelled as the International Monetary Fund will not send a replacement to Berlin, a government source said.

The IMF head and possible French presidential contender Strauss-Kahn was arrested and charged with sexual assault, including an attempted rape, on a hotel maid in New York City, police said today.

"The talks are cancelled," a senior German government representative said and no replacement for Strauss-Kahn would be sent to Berlin, he said.
