The body of a young man has been found in shallow grave in a field in north Dublin.

The body of a young man has been found in shallow grave in a field in north Dublin.

Gardaí said the discovery was made shortly before noon today in an area of Ballough, Balbriggan.

The man has been named as Paul Smith (34), from Dunsink Drive, Finglas.

Garda sources said Smith knew his life was in danger before he was shot and dumped in a field in Ballough, near Lusk.

Officers searching for the man, who had been missing since Tuesday, recovered his remains shortly before noon.

Officers said Smith was known to gardaí and there was a hit out on him.

Superintendent Joseph Kelly appealed for anyone who saw anything unusual in the area over the last number of days to come forward.
