Man jailed for role in car-theft ring

A Dublin man who stole cars for a large car-theft ring has been jailed for a year by Judge Elizabeth Dunne.

A Dublin man who stole cars for a large car-theft ring has been jailed for a year by Judge Elizabeth Dunne.

Peter Geoghegan (35), of Glenshane Road, Tallaght, was arrested at a farmyard premises in Castlebaggott, Newcastle, Co Dublin on July 3rd, 1997 while garda∅ were searching it.

Geoghegan was employed nine months beforehand by the gang operating the ring as a cleaner and mechanics assistant, before he was promoted in February 1997 to car thief. He told garda∅ he had stolen a total of 15 cars and 10 Ford Transits and was paid £150 for each.

Geoghegan pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to three counts of larceny between February 13th, 1997 and July 3rd, 1997.
