NEIGHBOURS Of the Creane family of Cuala Grove in Bray, Co Wicklow, stood around in small groups in the afternoon sunshine yesterday as Garda forensic experts examined the scene of Sunday’s knife attack which left two people dead, and another two in hospital.

The parents of Seb and Dylan Creane, Jim and Nuala Creane – who returned from abroad on Sunday – were not at the property yesterday, according to parish priest Fr Larry White, of the Queen of Peace church on nearby Putland Road.

Fr White, who called to the house shortly after 4pm, said he was not surprised the family had not been at the house. He understood the parents of the two students were being cared for by relatives and had been to see their eldest son in hospital.

He added that no discussion had taken place with regard to the funeral of Seb Creane and he expected the family to be away from the house for some time, “if they can ever return there”.

Locals spoke yesterday of how they first heard of the incident when units of the fire brigade and police arrived at the scene at about 5am on Sunday.

Reports yesterday indicated a woman in the house may have fled to a neighbour’s house to raise the alarm, but neighbours on either side of the Creane household were not speaking to the media yesterday.

Gardaí carrying out a forensic examination of the house yesterday could be seen in the hall and the upstairs and downstairs front rooms, where curtains were being examined.

A lone wreath for Seb Creane had been placed at the gate.
