Sir, - In your editorial of today we read of jitters: "We must confess our ignorance both of its meaning and of its symptoms."

When I was in London two years ago there were many bars with a card bearing the words "Gin and Jitters". The stranger who ordered this drink received a very large globular glass of gin. This was understood to dispose of the "jitters, which was a nervous disease peculiar to stockbrokers. During the crisis it was said that most stockbrokers preferred a big glass of gin in place of the customary 11 o'clock coffee.
