An 18-month-old girl with Irish parents drowned yesterday evening after falling into a swimming pool at a villa in Alicante, according to local media reports.
The tragedy occurred at the beach resort of Muchavista, El Campello, some 26km from Benidorm.
The child reportedly fell into the pool at about 7.15pm yesterday and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that both of the child's parents are Irish. However, the family is living in Spain and had not sought consular assistance, a spokesman said.
