Woman in her 60s killed in lorry collision near Kilcormac

A woman was killed near Kilcormac, Co Offaly, in a road collision early on Friday.

The woman in her 60s was driving a car which collided with a transport lorry at about 11.20am on the N52 Kilcormac to Tullamore road, just outside Kilcormac.

The driver of the lorry was uninjured.

The car's occupants, both women in their 60s, were transferred to Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore, where the driver was pronounced dead.

The passenger in the car is receiving treatment and her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The road was closed for a time to facilitate a forensic collision investigation, but has since reopened.
