United Airlines flight from Heathrow to Washington diverts after crew smells smoke

A mechanical issue forced a Washington-bound flight to make an emergency landing at Dublin airport this afternoon.

United Airlines flight UA131 from London Heathrow to Washington diverted to Dublin after crew members reported the smell of smoke in the cabin and declared an emergency.

The aircraft landed safely at around 2:30 pm local time and a maintenance team is currently inspecting it.

None of the 147 passengers and nine crew members on board the Boeing 757 200 series aircraft were injured.

A spokeswoman for Dublin Airport said all passengers disembarked safely.

United Airlines said their customers were in the terminal building of Dublin Airport.

The airline had yet to confirm whether the plane would resume its scheduled flight.
