Ex-Cork hurler Conor Cusack ‘abused about sexuality’ while socialising

Former Cork hurler and mental health campaigner Conor Cusack has said he was verbally abused about his sexuality while out with a friend last night.

In a post on his Facebook page, Mr Cusack said he and and a friend were subjected to verbal abuse and threatened for 30 minutes in an establishment and he claimed management did nothing to deal with the situation.

Describing the incident, Mr Cusack said: “Immensely disappointing to be out with a friend tonight and be verbally abused and threatened for a half hour about your sexuality and the management/locals say and do nothing about it”.

Cusack has been a vocal supporter of LGBT rights and a campaigner for mental health reform.

He said he “came up against many a tough full back in the hurling but when fellas threaten to slice you open and cut off your nose, it’s a bit distressing”.

Cusack played senior hurling for Cork and for his East Cork club, Cloyne.
