Woman dies in three-car collision in Galway

A woman has died after three cars collided in Co Galway this evening. She was 71 years-of-age.

The incident occurred on the R446 near the village of Kilreekil in Loughrea at around 5pm.

The woman, who was driving one of the cars, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of a second car, a woman in her 30s, was taken by ambulance to University College Hospital Galway. Her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The occupants of the third car did not require hospital treatment.

The road is currently closed and Garda forensic collision investigators are at the scene.
