Contract valued at €200,000 agreed for maintenance of Spire

Dublin-based firm Lynch Interact secures the contract

Dublin City Council has signed a €200,000 contract to ensure Dublin’s Spire will be cleaned and maintained over the next three years.

Clondalkin firm Lynch Interact has secured the €201,870 (including VAT) contract to clean and maintain the structure.

The deal is lower than the previous €218,000 three-year deal with Aramark Property to clean and maintain the 120m tall stainless-steel structure.

The cost of cleaning and maintaining the Spire since 2003 had amounted to about €2.5 million by the end of last year, which was more than half the €4.6 million construction cost of the monument.

The Spire was originally spoken about as being “self-cleaning” as it was designed to allow rain to flow off, taking any dirt with it.

However, the cleaning costs will continue to rise with the new contract.

The contract covers the maintenance of the structure and all of the electrical, mechanical, monitoring and control systems associated with it.
