Mountain safety people you would love to come across on a night out are two-a-penny. A mountainside encounter is, however, another matter. Keep your meetings with rescuers strictly to a social setting by observing these rules:

1 Wear sturdy boots with good ankle support.

2 Carry a light rucksack with waterproofs, additional warm clothing, and energy food such as chocolate.

3 Plan your walk carefully and be sure you can complete it before dark.
