FAYETTEVILLE - A former US Army paratrooper linked to a white supremacist group was found guilty yesterday of murdering a black couple in a racially motivated slaying in 1995.

James Burmeister (21) was convicted of two counts of first degree murder for the deaths of Jackie Burden (27) and Michael James (36). First degree murder requires premeditation. The couple were shot at close range as they walked through a Fayetteville neighbourhood in December 1995.
