Businessman Declan Ganley failed to comply with a court settlement to pay the European election expenses of Co Louth farmer Raymond O’Malley, a judge was told yesterday. The Circuit Civil Court heard that the settlement arrangement on January 16th last had been adjourned until yesterday to allow Mr Ganley pay Mr O’Malley’s €35,366 claim.

Counsel for Mr O’Malley told Judge Jacqueline Linnane it had been agreed between the parties judgment would be entered against Mr Ganley if he failed to meet yesterday’s deadline.

Counsel asked the court to adjourn the matter for a week.

He said Mr Ganley had provided Mr O’Malley with a personal cheque and while it had not cleared yet it was fully expected to have done so by March 13th.
